Our history

A growing company that was almost a bit of a cliché, founded in a garage right in the heart of Sweden, Gothenburg. Since starting in 2009, Wall-it has been run as a family business, which has shaped our unique and exciting history.

Patrick Nyman, founder

It started with a simple but brilliant idea.

Let's rewind to 2009. A year when the world stood on the threshold of a new era. Smartphones were starting to replace computers, and social media was changing how we communicated. It was a time when ideas became products. In the midst of all this, Patrick Nyman seized his chance. A simple idea became reality, and Wall-it was founded.

A practical reflection becomes an invention.

Patrick often used to think about small things that got in the way of everyday tasks. One day, while cleaning the toilet, he realised a recurring irritation: the toilet brush holder was always in the way when cleaning the floor — a solution was needed!

To bring his idea to life, Patrick turned to his grandfather, Rune Karlsson, a skilled mechanical engineer with 65 years of experience at SKF. Together they took the first steps towards a solution that, in their eyes, would change everyday life for many more people.

Sketch. Patent. Prototype.

The day had come! On 1 February 2010, the patent application was filed and was soon approved. Shortly after, the first prototype was produced. The ambition was clear: a practical solution wasn't enough — it also had to be stylish and fit naturally into the bathroom's interior.

Out on the market.

Thanks to Rune's skill, product after product was handmade in his small garage, and after many hours of hard work, sales finally started to pick up. But reaching the right audience was a bigger challenge back then, in early 2010. Digital marketing wasn't as established as it is today. Even so, they managed to reach customers through creative methods such as their own website, their own trade show stand, and classic adverts.

Expansion.

After selling several hundred products, it was clear: the interest was there. It was time to broaden the range, and Patrick got straight to work. He began thinking about more everyday problems that could be solved in the same way.

Soon the ideas had taken shape, and the original range had grown into five well-thought-out and functional products.

What happened next?

Despite a fantastic start with hundreds of satisfied customers, everyday life began to catch up. With full-time jobs, small children and other family reasons, it became increasingly difficult to keep up. In the end, the difficult decision was made to pause Wall-it. It simply wasn't possible to run the business fully at that time.

Comeback!

With unwavering confidence in our product, we've of course chosen to head back into the market. This time with sky-high goals and ambitions! With a brand-new team consisting of Patrick Nyman, Elias Forsling and Gabriel Ungesson, we want to finish what was started in 2009.

Rune Karlsson.

A large part of our work at Wall-it is dedicated to honouring the memory of Rune Karlsson, whom we tragically lost in 2024. Rune was a meticulous, skilled and always helpful person. But what truly made him special was the love and warmth he showed his family. As a husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, he always put his loved ones first.

We miss him deeply and are forever grateful for everything he did and everything he meant to us. Thank you, Rune.
